Drink Notes

Testing the gravity of raspberry melomelFood and drink are the husband and the wife, the couple whose marriage forms gastronomy.  Drink is important.

Besides the pleasure of enjoying it with food, “drink” is how we preserve most of the fruit that comes through our house.  Kilos and kilos of apples are crushed and fermented so we can cellar them in the form of cider.  Berries are submerged in liquor so they can be enjoyed throughout the winter.

This Drink section includes descriptions and techniques for:  brewing beer at home; making craft products like apple cider and mead at home; preserving fruit with commercial liquor; using local ingredients to make tisane; and odds and ends on festive drinks like eggnog.

Happy drinking.
